Kenya managed to bag three nominations at this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) set for June 7, in Durban, South Africa. Africa’s golden girl Lupita Nyongo bagged a nomination in the non-music category. Lupita will compete for the Personality of the Year award with other greats like author Chimamanda Adiche, actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, comedian Trevor Noah and footballer Yaya Toure.
Amani who is a second time nominees and a previous winner of a MAMA award bagged a Best Collaboration nomination for her musical effort, Kiboko Changu, with Ugandan duo Radio and Weasel.
Speaking to Word Is an excited Amani said, “I’m so happy and glad to have a second nomination. I did not expect it. The song did not have as much traction in Kenya but in the rest of Africa it did. Other things come as icing on the cake. I’m just happy.”
The final Kenyan nomination is by all male afro group, Sauti Sol. Nominated under the Best Group category, the Kenyan stars will battle it out with Big Nuz, Mafikizolo, Mi Casa and P Square.
