Woman attacked for wearing Google Glass at a bar

A San Francisco woman was attacked for wearing Google Glass in bar last Friday in the latest instance of public backlash against Google’s wearable tech.

Newsdab tech writer Sarah Slocum was showing off her Glass to a friend at Molotov’s — a popular dive bar in the city — and recording events at the bar when she was approached by a group, one of whom reportedly said Slocum and her tech friends were “destroying the city.”

The two women and a man snatched the Glass of Slocum’s face. She was able to recover her technology, but not before the group made off which her purse, wallet and cellphone. Slocum recounted the story on her Facebook page.

“The crowd at Molotov’s is not a tech-oriented crowd for the most part,” an eyewitness told CBS. “It’s probably one of the more punk rock bars in the city, so it’s not really Google Glass country.”

“I think everybody was just upset that she would be recording outside of a bar this late with obviously embarrassing behavior going on around her,” another witness said. “[The patrons were] insulted that someone thinks it’s OK to record them the entire time they’re in public.”

Google Glass resentment seems to be a growing trend in the city, where another San Francisco man was asked to leave a downtown coffee shop Monday for making employees and other customers “feel uncomfortable” while wearing a Glass inside.

Slocum reportedly captured video of the incident on her Glass that could be used to identify her assailant, which she has since handed over to police.
