Ten IPP Media Group journalists have been shortlisted for the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) – 2013.
Media Council of Tanzania acting Executive Secretary Pili Mtambalike told journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the panel of judges had short-listed 101 nominees to vie for 19 print media, television and radio categories.
“This makes a total of 101,” she said, announcing that the total number of persons on the short list is 76 nominees (including IPP’s selected ten) “most of whom have been short-listed in more than one category.”
The IPP Media Group journalists include Sam Mahela, Asraji Mvungi and Vedasto Msungu from ITV.
Others are Polycarp Machira, Dickson Ngh’ily, Ashton Balaigwa, Romana Mallya, Mashaka Mgeta, Muhidini Msamba, Richard Makore and Abdul Kingo from The Guardian Limited.
She explained that under the chairmanship of Gervas Moshiro, the panel of judges reviewed 907 entries from both the print and electronic media between February 10 and 16.
“We are glad that there has been an improvement in submissions and an increase in women’s participation,” she said.
As EJAT marks its fifth anniversary, she said, there will be more and better prizes for all those shortlisted.
Mtambalike, who was one of the judges, said journalists short-listed ought to be proud of their work and the recognition they have received for the works they submitted.
The panel of judges had also submitted nominees for the Lifetime Achievement in Journalism Award (LAJA), and the winner will also be announced at the function to be held at the Mlimani City Hall on March 14. The Chief Guest at the function is expected to be East African Court President Harold Nsekela.
